Tom McQueen
A Legacy of Servant Leadership
Born in Hamilton and raised on the Hauraki Plains, Tom grew up on the farm and has carried that practical, hands-on spirit ever since. He loves cars, utes, anything with an engine, and he’s always up for fishing, camping, adventuring, and time with his mates. Growing up, he was a key part of the brass band, playing the euphonium and a range of other instruments. He loves travelling, can banter with the best of us, and has one of the best laughs you’ll ever hear.
Inside Soul Church, most people will never fully know what Tom does — because he would never feel the need to tell anyone. He serves with a kind of humility that’s hard to find.
Tom loves helping people and will serve in any way he can. Whether it’s the sound desk, the Friday-night media desk, or the countless times he slips in during the week to tackle the behind-the-scenes jobs that keep this place running — running new cables, setting up computers and technology, maintenance, building, or helping anyone with car trouble — Tom just gets it done. And he does it without ever making you feel like you owe him a thing.
He’s a real people person too. He loves a good conversation, listens first, and is genuinely interested in others before ever talking about himself. Along with his wife Chantelle, he hosts a small group where you will find all this to be true and you will always feel welcome and wanted at his place. You won't find many, if any, people like Tom and this community at Soul and the wider community of Matamata is much better off for having Tom McQueen part of it.
